About it reported SpaceX developer.
The launch of 46 Starlink satellites into orbit has been confirmed.
The launch was carried out from the Vandenberg Space Force Base in California at 10.39 a.m. Pacific Coast Time (7.39 p.m. Kyiv time).
Approximately an hour after the launch, 46 satellites separated from the second stage of the rocket in a polar orbit up to 320 km high. After SpaceX engineers check their performance, satellites using their own ion engines will rise to a regular orbit with an altitude of about 560 km.
This is already the 53rd launch of a group of Internet satellites into orbit since May 2019 as part of the Starlink project and 4 this month. Another one is expected on July 24th.
Internet satellites weighing 290 kg each became part of the SpaceX orbital constellation. SpaceX has launched 2,904 Starlink internet satellites so far. Part failed or went out of orbit. About 2.6 thousand devices remain in orbit in working condition.
Meanwhile, the multiple first stage of the American Falcon 9 launch vehicle, which was used for launches for the 4th time, approximately 8.5 minutes after the launch made a controlled vertical landing on the Of Course I Still Love You floating drone platform, which was located in several hundred kilometers from a base in the Pacific Ocean.
In addition, a special rescue ship SpaceX had to fish out of the water two flaps of the nose fairing of the rocket, which, after separation, descended by parachute. Reusing the fairing saves SpaceX up to $6 million in launching its rockets.
The company is currently the largest satellite operator in the world. According to SpaceX, the Starlink Internet network is available to users in 32 countries around the world, including North America, Europe, the Far East and Australia. According to the Pentagon, the US and Ukrainian military also actively use satellite services.
In the future, SpaceX plans to deploy an orbital constellation of 12 thousand spacecraft of this type (and later – with 30 thousand) to create a full-scale network that will provide the inhabitants of the Earth with broadband Internet access anywhere in the world. The total investment in the project is estimated at $10 billion.
